Welcome to Day 1 of the #thrivelife project—a 30 day Social Media campaign, devoted to THRIVING (not just surviving) in yo’ life.

Over the next 30 days, I am asking you to join me in digging deep to answer this question (with confidence):

What does thriving in life mean to you?

The #thrivelife project is all about connecting to the things in your life that really matter and being the BEST you that you can be (mind, body and soul).

This is accomplished in 3 ways:

  • Mind: Changing Your Mindset (Good-bye Inner-Critic)

  • Body: Taking Care of Yo’Self (in order to help others and live bigger you must ALSO help yourself)

  • Soul: Living on Purpose (Living your passions and paying it forward to others)

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left” use_border_color=”off” border_color=”#ffffff” border_style=”solid”]

As part of this operation, every day I will be posting a different #thrivelife project—devoted to LIVING BIGGER than the ruts, or insecurities, or stresses and woes you’ve been stuck in.

Face it: We all have ruts, and things in life that weigh us down—think about it:

  • Our own inner critics
  • Financial stresses
  • Those “last 10 lbs.” we never can seem to lose or gain
  • A health condition
  • A job you’re not crazy about
  • Never feeling “good enough”
  • Anxiety
  • Worry
  • ________ (You fill in the blank)

Whatever rut you’ve been in, or whatever looming black cloud hangs over your head, we are leaving it behind to reclaim the thriving life you were meant to live.

#thrivelife is inspired by the work I do daily with girls and women around the world to take back their health, connect to their passions and live out their bigger purpose.

I want to give you a glimpse into building a complete picture of wellness in ALL areas of yo’ life (not just the six-pack ab selfies or delicious paleo donuts you see on Instagram).

In practice, this means building a foundation of self care through:

  • Nutrition. Building a foundation with a solid nutrition plan and helping you make peace with food.
  • Functional Medicine. Addressing any body imbalances (gut health, thyroid health, PCOS, amenorrhea, infertility, etc.)through a functional medicine approach—healing the roots of disease and mental health, not just band-aiding the symptoms.
  • Movement. Helping you find what moves you to enhance your quality of life through moving the limbs and beating that heart you were given to thrive. Fitness is meant to be fun (like recess)!
  • Mindset Change. Talking back to your inner critic and claiming victory in your mind in order to thrive (and stop letting her hold you down).
  • Passion + Purpose. Once your self-care is established, we can talk about the FUN stuff—living out your mission in this life and doing the things you love in all areas (work, relationships, leisure, hobby, etc.)

Over the next 30 days, I invite you to join me on #thrivelife as I post daily #thrivelife projects for you to begin LIVING BIGGER…and moving towards the thriving life you deserve and living out your greater purpose.

If you missed yesterday’s pre-project mission, answer this question:

If you could have anything in life, or if you could have anything change, what would you want right now?

After that…you are ready for Day 1: Let the games begin!!

Day One: #thrivelife project 1

Vulnerability (adj.) open to moral attack, criticism, temptation, etc.; capable of or susceptible to being wounded or hurt, as by a weapon.

Vulnerability doesn’t sound pretty.

Today, Day One of the #thrivelife project, we are talking all about vulnerability: Being authentic, open AND real.

In order to break down any barriers or ruts that have been holding you back in your life, we gotta start with getting really raw and honest about what those are…and face them: fact-to-face.

(Smackdown style!)

If you’re familiar with the New York Times Bestselling author Brene Brown, you’re highly familiar with vulnerability.

Brown is a social worker and researcher who struck it “big time” when she gave a TED Talk several years ago on the Power of Vulnerability.

Your #thrivelife project today?

Be vulnerable.

Whatever that means to you

Do something to be more authentic today—real.

This could look like:

  • Sharing a secret you’ve been holding onto for a long time
  • Breaking the ice—and not skating around an issue with your significant other
  • Stop saying “Yes” to everything—and start saying “No” sometimes
  • Speaking your mind
  • Trusting your intuition
  • Not being a people pleaser today
  • Being honest with yourself.
  • Or simply being YOU (you don’t have to be like everyone else)

Vulnerability and authenticity are not just hard for insecure middle-schoolers.

They are hard for all of us.

However, in order to start living the thriving life you (and I) were made to live, we need to stop trying to please other people; or covering up an issue pressing in our lives; or telling ourselves “tomorrow things will change”—and start being more authentic and vulnerable.

That way we start to leave baggage behind, and start moving in to the thriving soul we are deep down inside.

Ok…So are you ready for mine?

Here it goes…

This past year, I’ve been struggling.

One word: Insecurity.

It will get to you. It does me.

And, I have insecurities that bug me like a thorn in my flesh.

Ever since my recovery from my eating disorder, and my newfound freedom in living a happy, thriving, healthy life…There have been thorns that have tried to weigh me down.

For 14 years, my body went through the ringer: Like any other survivor, I am thankful I came out alive, but for 14 years (many of those crucial for development), I was not well.

Malnourished, stressed, beating myself up. My body took a great hit.

In my recovery at the age of 24, I found a brand new life and broke free from the chains of bondage and enslavement to “ED”—that eating disorder.

However, also, in my recovery, I have paid a price—a body once broken, still in the process of being restored.

While I am light years ahead of where I ever was…it is still a work in progress

And while my mind is completely healed and free—my body is still catching up.

From adrenal distress, healing my own gut, restoring my bones and muscle mass, and healing a body that was once broken…the work is still not finished…and I too, am a work in progress.

Daily, I make strong, healthy decisions for self-care through nourishment and no longer beating myself up…but there is still work to be done…

And my vulnerability is ultimately displayed when it comes to my own body image.

I often tell people I have “little girl Syndrome” because—for years I wanted to be “Little Lauryn”—but now, that is the last thing I want.

Thanks to a gut that was disrupted by years of abuse and malnutrition, coupled with a crazy fast metabolism from years of living in a sub-par state…my body has a tendency to be thinner than I like.

It grew so accustomed to being thinner for 14 years, that it’s become a “set point” that I have often fought throughout my recovery.

Just like some folks are pre-dispositioned to carry more weight or be “bigger boned” than others…I, the ectomorph, am pre-dispositioned to be lean.

And sometimes, quite honestly, I hate it.

Hate pictures and videos of myself—just as much as you may as well.

And you know what? Sometimes it stings.

It stings when someone says: “You should gain some weight” when I’ve just polished off nearly a whole rotisserie chicken with some sweet potatoes, veggies and avocado at lunch (ha yes seriously, I can put a whole chicken away).

And it stings when someone says: “If only I was lean like you—then I’d be ok.”

And it stings when I look in the mirror and just wish those 5 lbs. would magically snap on.

But you know what?

When I go back to the drawing board to look at my life and my self-care from an outside perspective…

I am taking care of myself…not stuck in those ED thoughts…and living a life I love (outside this thorn in my flesh).

And you know what?

While this “thorn in my flesh” of a crazy fast metabolism and naturally lean build feels like it is something I sometimes can’t shake…

When I get outside myself—my worries and woes and thoughts in my head—and bring my focus more to doing things I love and loving others well…all of my worries, and insecurities and self-obsession fades.

This is a long winded answer to me being vulnerable with you today…but guess what, there is power and freedom in vulnerability!

Leave the old baggage behind…and start to embrace your new #thrivelife…

This is gonna be good (like really good).

Join me tomorrow.

And in the midst of running after something I love…part of me got sacrificed in that process
