The Day My Whole World Stood Still
I made it—the full year through grad school. But it was not easy.
In spite of my 7- 8 hour workout schedule (every day), I managed to get straight A’s in all my classes, work 2 part time jobs and subsist off of little sleep and food. By this time, I was eating even more strictly. I had my mom ship my favorite turkey patties (on ice) from Little Rock in packs of 60 to 80 at a time, and I stored them in my apartment freezer.Otherwise I drank 2 pitchers of Strawberry Orange Banana Crystal Light, zucchini, almonds and whey protein powder. While I smiled on the outside, it was obvious to everyone else I was struggling…big time. Then it happened—the morning I will never forget.
The morning before year 2 of grad school started, I stepped on the scale (like always) and saw a number I had not seen since I was 10 years old (on the left)….back when it all began. At 23, for the first time…It was scared. To cope I got in my car, fled to the gym, and prayed OUT LOUD, “God, please help me make a change today!”
