Grad School Escape
I managed to graduate undergrad from UT-Austin without any more treatment centers and took my first job as a TV News Producer back in Little Rock, Arkansas (my hometown). However, the eating disorder habits of working out upwards of 6-7 hours per day, plus fear of carbs and restrictive eating continued to keep me stuck. I felt cramped back at home, where my parents still monitored everything I ate and talked to me about recovery (all the time). My answer out? Apply and go to grad school of course! Break free from the chains of home, hoping ED would “go away.”
I applied to occupational therapy school at Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn., got in and fled–fast, thinking maybe running away would help me heal…
Reality: You can take the girl out of her environment, but you can’t take the ED habits magically out of the girl (until she is READY).
