Goal Setting is sooooo Tony Robbins and Chicken Soup for the Soul.
Motivational rah-rah pep talks. Resolutions that don’t last. Things that are hard to do. Rules. Deadlines. And self-guilt (if I don’t accomplish them).
Who wants to set goals if they are any of these things?
Enter: Passion Planning–Taking “goal setting” to a whole new level.
I used to think goal setting was overrated.
I prided myself in NOT setting New Years’ resolutions and NOT being like the 90-something-percent of Americans who fail at goals.
Even if I had goals or dreams in my heart…I never really put them into a formal fashion.
For example, for YEARS, I had the “goal”–or desire–to change my body and my health “situation.” I was sick and tired of being sick and tired…but didn’t know how to break free.
I didn’t know how to get unstuck.
- I thought about wanting to change (everyday).
- I thought about eating a little bit more.
- I thought about exercising a little bit less.
- I thought about reaching out for help.
But I was stuck. And didn’t budge.
Until I decided to do something about it.
Enter: Passion Planning.
It wasn’t until I got CLEAR VISION for WHO healthy thriving me was, that things actually began to change.
And it wasn’t until I got clear on the ACTION STEPS I could take to “get there” that things began to unfold.
Whether you want to change jobs, save money, make money, build more meaningful relationships and community, grow spiritually, get healthier, leave your eating disorder behind, remodel your house, stop saying “tomorrow” and beyond…give Thrive’s version of Passion Planning below a try (and experience BIG THINGS about to unfold).
PASSION PLANNING: PLAY-BY-PLAY
Yesterday, we spent time understanding your values, strengths, mission and purpose” (If you missed out on Part 1 of Passion Planning make sure you do that BEFORE moving forward). These lessons are essential to making goals that are meaningful to you!
Now is where the real fun begins. Here’s your Play-by-Play for creating your personal Passion Plan:
Step 1:
Make 4 columns on your paper—3 years, 1 year, 6 months, 3 months. We are thinking near future now! Then under those 4 columns, list as many things that you’d like to have accomplished by those times. Set a time for 5-minutes to keep you grounded.
Step 2:
Now set your timer for 1 minute and go back through that list and circle the top 4 goals—in any column—that would have the most impact on your life right now.
Step 3:
Lastly—Pick ONE of those top 4 goals to start with. This is the goal we are going to work with first. The one you want to focus on right now. For that goal, set your timer for 5-minutes once more and list as many action steps that you can think of that it would take to reach that goal.
Step 4:
Now date-em. With all those action steps on paper—set due dates for accomplishment, and begin slotting them into your calendar as well!
Step 5:
Write em down. Stick your primary goals and action steps you are focusing on in a place you can see it—a sticky note, dry erase board, notecard. Wherever our heart is there our mind will be also
Step 6:
ACTION! This is your time to shine! Take action and watch big things unfold. Here you go! You can continue to set passion plans for as many goals as you like.
Get ready to watch big things unfold….
