Hello 2 800X675 1 | Constipation Cures

Constipation is one of the most common gastrointestinal (GI) problems, affecting approximately 42 million people in the United States.

For diagnosis, “chronic constipation” is technically defined as:

  • Fewer than three bowel movements a week, and/or
  • Bowel movements with stools that are hard, dry, and small, making them painful or difficult to pass

However, constipation can happen at any time.

Any day you “don’t go”—you miss a day of bowel movement, you’re constipated.

In college, my freshman roommate and I actually kept a “poop chart” for her because she’d go 6-7 days in a row—without pooping.

It was that kind of  funny that is “not-funny.”

(And we most definitely laughed and celebrated her “successes” on the days that the golden poo came!)

But… We didn’t get it: Why all of a sudden, come college, was she having such a hard time, going poo?

It wasn’t until much later we realized some Common Constipation Culprits that totally were working against her (listed below).

(Shazam! Constipation conundrum be gone!)

I, too, can relate.

As a kid, my pediatrician prescribed me to eat Fiber One Cereal—a stick-like cereal bark that became mushy in my 2% Milk—with sliced strawberries every morning, prunes and raisins with lunch, and Nutri-Grain bars every afternoon as a snack.

“The cures”—more fiber—for constipation.

The result?

A little bit of give…but still…the constipation stayed with me throughout my childhood, teens and young 20-something years.

Until…I discovered some simple solutions for curing constipation naturally (and realized the real reasons I was constipated in the first place).
